party : a colourful easter brunch & hunt

First of all, it’s been so long. I know, I know. And I know that both Rachel & I have been missing the blog – and hope to find more time to blog in the coming months! Between a new baby and a lot of work stress, House of Colour had to be set to the side… but just for a season!

I’m happy to break the silence today with a post about the Easter brunch & egg hunt that our mom hosted. Our cousin, Ali, stepped in to help with crafting, decor, florals, etc. She did such a wonderful job!

So without further ado…

This weekend, House of Colour + the incredible talents of our cousin Ali styled a colourful Easter brunch & egg hunt.

We used Paperless Post for our invitations – they have great & inexpensive designs for online invitations.

Invite

The invitation inspired the colour scheme for the florals & all the party decor. We created a colourful pennant garland & archway to greet guests as they entered.

The real show-stoppers were the floral arrangements. We used our family favorite, Lyal Nickals, to get cut flowers in our colour palate & arranged them in ribbon-wrapped glass vessels. We also scattered a few dyed eggs – what’s Easter without dyed eggs?

You may have noticed those sweet little egg bouquets… we saw Fleuritica’s egg cup tutorial on Pinterest & loved the idea!

Other decorative touches included LOTS of hanging honeycomb eggs,  paper-mache eggs, bunnies & carrots on stakes and more!

eat & drink : perfect pasta

I love pasta.  It’s so easy to make and there are so many different combinations you can use!

ImageThis is one of my favorites!  Penne with sausage, fennel and pecorino.  Click here for the recipe!

ImageThis time I used Aidell’s Italian sausage and cut it into small bite-sized pieces, rather than buying Italian sausage in casings.  It has great flavor!

ImageImageI’m telling you . . . everything about this dish is delicious!  From the sausage and fennel soaked with chicken broth to the sage and pecorino that perfectly finish this pasta!  It’s really a great “fall” pasta, but I like it any time of year!

home & garden : seeing green

This weekend, Rachel and I went to one of our favorite San Leandro spots – Evergreen Nursery!

Seriously, they have such a great selection of seeds, veggies, flowers, trees – whatever you need! and the staff is so knowledgeable & friendly!

Now that I’m in a gardenless apartment, I’m venturing into the arena of houseplants. The staff helped me pick out some plants that thrive with medium light (which is what we get).

(this lime green pothos plant is my favorite – it makes our apartment more like a jungle!)

I also got some flowers for our teeny-tiny balcony!

party : easter

Our mom & dad hosted our Easter party this year and we had so much fun putting together some decorations for the event.. it was all about robin’s egg blue & florals, florals, florals! Here are some moments we think you’d enjoy!

Sarah was our egg-dyeing expert for the day.

This table was all about elegance!

The hobnail glass dishes and serving pieces once belonged to our great-grandmother, Ella. It was so fun to incorporate them into our celebration! The floral centerpieces were housed in a variety of glass jars, including six small ones set atop a glass cake stand to create a dramatic focal point.

Over at this table, we were all about birds, nests and beautiful blue eggs!

Daffodils adorned the table at both ends and a milkglass cake plate held a magnificent (seriously! see photo below!) nest in the middle. White dishes and napkins kept the table looking clean and hints of red added a bright, happy touch!

Sarah used washi tape to make those little jars fancy!

See? I told you it was magnificent!
